On Saturday, February 20th, I had the honor of participating in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge. I joined Manny’s oncologist, Dr. Wilky, and her team. We met at the Sun Life Stadium and ran the 5k along with many other cancer-fighters. There were also six possible fundraising bike rides, including one that was 100 miles!
Last year’s 100-mile bike ride winner, George Fetko, is a sarcoma survivor himself, with an incredibly inspiring story.
The DCC is a beautiful event that is dedicated to improving people’s lives through financial support of cancer research at UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Since the DCC began, it has raised over $11.55 million. 100% of the funds raised during the event go to Sylvester. With the money raised, Sylvester has been able to offer patients individualized treatments, better outcomes, and, most importantly, hope!
After the run, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and even a concert featuring Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow. It was a fantastic afternoon surrounded by cancer-fighters, cancer survivors, and lots of love.
I am very grateful to all who supported me and donated to my run. I will definitely participate again next year!
